The Town of Amherst announced on Mar. 31 that it will hold its Rubbish Roundup community clean up event on Sunday, April 26, from noon to 2:00 p.m. The event is designed to bring residents together to help clean and beautify public spaces throughout the town.

Organizers say the initiative aims to involve a wide range of participants, including individuals, families, businesses, neighborhood associations, student clubs, religious communities, and other groups. Participants can sign up either individually or as part of a group by completing the registration form at amherstma.gov/RubbishRoundup2026 by Sunday, April 19.

Clean-up efforts will focus on several locations across Amherst. These include Mill River Recreation Area in North Amherst; Town Hall/North Common in Central Amherst; Groff Park in South Amherst; Kiwanis Field and Belchertown Road; as well as additional sites suggested during sign-up or assigned by organizers.

Residents are encouraged to gather their group if participating collectively and have one leader complete the registration for everyone involved. Volunteers may choose a preferred location from those listed or propose another area within town limits for cleaning. Assignments and reminders will be communicated by town staff closer to the event date.

The Rubbish Roundup is intended not only as an opportunity for environmental stewardship but also as a way for neighbors to connect while working toward a common goal.
