University of Massachusetts junior attackman Charles Kurtz was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week, according to an April 6 announcement from the conference. This is Kurtz’s first career weekly honor and marks the seventh weekly award for the UMass men’s lacrosse team this season.
The recognition comes after Kurtz led all scorers with a career-high five goals in UMass’ recent 14-12 win over Saint Joseph’s. The game was closely contested, featuring ten ties and four lead changes. Kurtz scored key goals throughout, including one that tied the game at 4-4 in the first quarter, ending a three-goal run by Saint Joseph’s.
He also gave UMass leads at critical moments—7-6 in the second quarter and 11-10 in the fourth—after which his team did not trail again. His final goal helped secure victory for UMass by stopping a late rally attempt from Saint Joseph’s.
Kurtz has recorded 29 points over eleven games this season, ranking third on his team overall and second in goals with twenty-four.
UMass will return to action on Saturday, April 11, hosting Delaware at Garber Field.
