JP Mbuthia signs professional contract with Estonia’s FC Elva

University of Massachusetts graduate student forward JP Mbuthia has signed a professional contract with FC Elva, a club in Estonia’s second division, the Esiliiga.

Mbuthia played for the Minutemen during the 2025 season, where he started in 10 out of 12 matches and spent 799 minutes on the field. He led the team with 18 points, scoring eight goals and providing two assists. Over the course of the season, he took 21 shots, with 11 being on target. His eight goals were not only a team-high but also included two game-winning goals.

In conference play, Mbuthia was among the top performers. He ranked fifth in the Summit League for total goals scored (eight), sixth in game-winning goals (two), and fifth in points (18). His efforts earned him recognition as a Summit League All-Newcomer and an All-League Honorable Mention for 2025.

Prior to joining UMass for his graduate season, Mbuthia played at Robert Morris University during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Before that, he was part of UNC Charlotte’s soccer program from 2021 to 2022.
