Kassidy Morris of the University of Massachusetts Amherst women’s lacrosse team was named a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Week, according to a May 6 announcement by the league.
The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and excel in their sport during the week. Each institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any current season sport, with winners selected by representatives from the MAC’s Faculty Athletics Representatives.
Morris recorded ten points over two MAC Tournament games, scoring eight goals and providing two assists. Her efforts helped UMass secure both the MAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. For her performance, Morris was named to the All-Tournament Team and received MVP honors for the tournament. In the semifinals against Robert Morris, she tallied four goals and two assists during a 14-5 victory. She then scored four goals in the championship game against defending champion Akron despite being closely defended.
Morris enters NCAA Tournament play with twelve consecutive multi-goal games, including hat tricks in eleven of them. She has accumulated 101 points this season, tying her own program record set last year.
Looking ahead, Morris and her teammates will compete on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against sixth-seeded Navy. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start on ESPN+.
