Kassidy Morris broke the program’s career goals record as the Massachusetts women’s lacrosse team defeated Robert Morris 18-6 on March 28. The Minutewomen improved their season record to 8-2 and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0.
The achievement is significant for both Morris and the team, highlighting a standout individual performance during a decisive victory. With this win, Massachusetts continues its strong run in the season.
Morris scored six goals in the game, surpassing Katie Ferris’ previous record of 211 career goals with her fifth goal of the day, which came on a free-position shot with just under ten minutes left in the third quarter. She added another goal less than a minute later and has now scored thirteen times over her last two games. Over her last four contests, she has totaled twenty-two goals and seven assists.
Dylan Lyons contributed four goals and two assists for Massachusetts, while Ava Connaughton recorded one goal and three assists. Caitlyn Naughton also added two goals and an assist. On defense, Marisa Gatz collected four groundballs along with a personal best of three caused turnovers; Bridget Valentine had three groundballs, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls; Cate Marshall led with ten draw controls.
After initially falling behind late in the first quarter, UMass responded by scoring five consecutive goals to take control of the match. The lead continued to grow through contributions from several players including Lyons and Katie Onderdonk. By halftime, UMass held a ten-to-five advantage.
In total shots taken during the game favored UMass by thirty-seven to seventeen. The Minutewomen also excelled on draws (seventeen to eight) and were perfect on clears (seventeen-for-seventeen). Goalkeeper Bayley Duffy made six saves for Massachusetts.
UMass will return home for its next three games starting Wednesday against Bryant during Military Appreciation Day.
