Leonardo Bettiol of the University of Massachusetts men’s basketball team was named a second team All-District honoree by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, according to an announcement made last week.
The recognition follows a strong 2025-26 season for Bettiol, who also earned second team All-Mid-American Conference honors and was selected to the All-Tournament Team. The award highlights his role as a leading player for the Minutemen and continues a recent trend for UMass, which has now featured an All-District honoree for three consecutive years. In previous seasons, Rahsool Diggins received second team honors in 2025, while Matt Cross and Josh Cohen were recognized in 2024.
Bettiol led his team in both scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 18.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. These numbers placed him fourth in scoring and third in rebounding within the Mid-American Conference (MAC). His field goal percentage of 61.1 percent topped all players in the conference and ranked twentieth nationally. Additionally, he recorded seven double-doubles during the season—sixth best among MAC players.
Throughout most of the season, Bettiol consistently reached double figures in points, missing that mark only three times and closing out with a streak of seventeen straight games with at least ten points. In conference play alone, he averaged 18.6 points (fourth) and 7.6 rebounds (fifth) per game within the MAC standings.
Bettiol scored over twenty points on sixteen occasions this year, including a standout performance with thirty-two points during an overtime win against Bowling Green. He contributed twenty-five points and eight rebounds during Massachusetts’ quarterfinal victory over Miami (OH), followed by twenty-one points against Toledo.
