The Massachusetts men’s lacrosse team secured a 9-7 victory over St. Bonaventure on Mar. 28, moving their season record to 8-3 and improving to 1-2 in the Atlantic 10 conference.
This win is significant for Massachusetts as it helps the team rebound in conference play and maintains momentum heading into upcoming matches.
Sophomore Jack Turowsky led Massachusetts with four points, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Freshman Thomas Bagnall contributed a hat trick along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior Aiden Drunsic added three points through a goal and two assists, while junior Charles Kurtz scored twice. Sophomore Tyler Clayton recorded two assists, and sophomore Robbie Granara had one goal and one assist. Senior Zach Auble collected a career-high eight ground balls and caused three turnovers.
For St. Bonaventure, Jaxon Dillon was the only player to post multiple points, finishing with three on a goal and two assists. Owen Tasse added five ground balls and five caused turnovers for the Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure opened scoring early but never regained the lead after Turowsky tied it at 1-1 in the first quarter. UMass held advantages throughout much of the game, including a strong second half performance where Bagnall completed his hat trick with a man-down goal in the third quarter, followed by another from Turowsky during a man-up opportunity.
Despite St. Bonaventure’s late push in the fourth quarter that closed the gap to one goal, Granara secured UMass’s win with an insurance goal late in regulation play.
UMass out-shot their opponent by a margin of 44-28 shots on goal while successfully defending all three man-down situations during the match. Sophomore Owen Salanger made eleven saves for UMass; Isaac Farmer had sixteen stops for St. Bonaventure.
Looking ahead, Massachusetts will host No. 15/16 Saint Joseph’s next Saturday at Garber Field.
