Massachusetts tennis secures seventh consecutive win with sweep over Franklin Pierce

The University of Massachusetts tennis team recorded its seventh straight victory on April 2, defeating Franklin Pierce University 7-0 at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.

This result brings the Minutewomen to a season record of 14-3, while Franklin Pierce falls to 3-10. The match saw Massachusetts winning all three doubles contests and sweeping every singles match for a comprehensive win.

In doubles play, Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich secured a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2, while Ella Faessler and Renata Farima completed the sweep with another 6-0 result at No. 1 doubles.

During singles competition, Pavissich led from the top spot with a dominant performance, winning her match against Ines Gabarro of Franklin Pierce by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Farima also posted strong numbers in her straight-set win at court No. 3. De Oliveira and Fiona Ao contributed wins in their respective matches as well.

Duru Baycan made her collegiate debut memorable by claiming a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) victory at No.5 singles against Candela Tortosa of Franklin Pierce. Owethu Makhanya rounded out the singles results with another straight-set win.

After this shutout performance, Massachusetts will have a week-long break before returning to action for two road matches: facing Western Michigan on April 10 in Kalamazoo and then Toledo on April 12.
