The University of Massachusetts tennis team earned its third straight victory and second consecutive Mid-American Conference win by defeating Eastern Michigan University, 6-1, on March 15 at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
This result brings the Minutewomen’s season record to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Eagles now stand at 9-7 for the season and are 0-2 in league competition.
Massachusetts started strong by capturing the doubles point. Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich won their match at court No. 3 with a score of 6-1 against Iva Daneva and Regina Mendez Carreño from Eastern Michigan. Ella Faessler and Renata Farima also secured a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Kseniia Saenko and Cylova Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya. Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye were leading their match at No. 2 doubles when play concluded.
In singles matches, Amelia Tye achieved a quick win with a score of 6-0, 6-0 over Pehal Kharadkar at court No. 2. Fiona Ao followed with a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-4) against Matilde Parreira at No. 4 singles. Eastern Michigan picked up one point as Sabrina Tolstova defeated Pavissich in two sets (7-6(2), 6-1) on court No. 3, but Faessler responded with a three-set win (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) over Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya at No. 1 singles.
Markevica added another point for Massachusetts by beating Mendez Carreño (6-1, 6-0) at the No.5 position, while Farima closed out the match with a win over Saenko (6-4, 6-2) on court No.6.
Looking ahead, the Minutewomen will travel to Oxford, Ohio to face Miami (OH) on Friday, March 20 at noon before heading to Muncie, Indiana to take on Ball State on Sunday, March 22 at eleven o’clock in the morning.
