The University of Massachusetts tennis team defeated Northern Illinois University, 6-1, on Mar. 29 to secure its sixth consecutive victory during Senior Day. The match took place in Amherst and also marked the team’s fifth straight win in Mid-American Conference play.

This result brings the Minutewomen’s record to 13-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference competition, while the Huskies fell to 15-7 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Northern Illinois initially claimed the doubles point by winning at courts No. 2 and No. 3, despite a victory from Ella Faessler and Renata Farima at No. 1 doubles for Massachusetts. Isabella Righi and Lucia Yecora secured a win over Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye at No. 2 doubles for NIU, while Irmak Budak and Jenna Horne clinched the point with their triumph against Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich at No. 3.

Trailing by one point after doubles play, Massachusetts responded strongly by winning all six singles matches. Amelia Tye began the comeback with a straight-set win over Theordora Kousiou at No. 2 singles, followed by Fiona Ao’s victory against Nataly Ninova on court four. Martina Pavissich overcame Lucia Yecora in three sets at position three, while Ella Faessler outlasted Burdak in another three-set contest at the top spot.

Madara Markevica added another point with her win over Rebecca Miralles at No. 6 singles, before Renata Farima sealed the team’s success with a two-set triumph against Jenna Horne at position five.

Looking ahead, Massachusetts is set to host Franklin Pierce for a non-conference matchup on Thursday, April 2.
