Massachusetts women’s track team competes at UConn Dog Fight meet

The University of Massachusetts women’s track and field team competed in the UConn Dog Fight on April 4 at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Connecticut.

The event saw several notable performances from the Minutewomen as they continued their outdoor season. These results provide an update on the team’s progress and individual achievements during this phase of competition.

Jaliyah Burns finished eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 167 feet, while Elizabeth Hopkins secured fifth place in the javelin with a throw of 127 feet, six inches. Megan Frazee shared third place in the pole vault by clearing twelve feet, one and a half inches. In jumping events, Shakira Cadet placed fifth in long jump at eighteen feet, three and a quarter inches and took second place in triple jump with a leap of thirty-nine feet, eight inches.

Coco Van Nynatten won first place in discus with a throw of 151 feet, eight inches. Natalie Krysta joined her on the podium by finishing third at 150 feet, six inches. The relay team composed of Jillian Strynar, Jana DeRaedt, Chloe Guthrie and Jennifer Williams ran to eighth place in the four-by-100 meter relay with a time of forty-six point eighty-six seconds.

Ashley Johnson earned second place honors in the four hundred meters by clocking fifty-five seconds even. Jillian Strynar finished tenth overall in one hundred meters (11.99) and fourth overall in two hundred meters (24.68), while Ashley Johnson also placed eighth (24.92) for that distance. Skylar Fox rounded out top ten finishers for UMass with her performance (2:17.96) in the eight hundred meters.

Looking ahead, Massachusetts will compete next at both the Friar Invitational on April 10th in Providence and host its own Commonwealth Invitational on April 11th.
