Max Warner has been appointed as the offensive coordinator for Massachusetts Football, according to an announcement from head coach Joe Harasymiak. Warner brings experience from previous coaching roles at Toledo and Bowling Green.
“I am excited to officially announce the addition of Max Warner as our program’s offensive coordinator,” said Harasymiak. “Max bolsters our program with his proven track record of productive and innovative offenses, player development and program growth. His experience will be a tremendous asset to the Massachusetts football family. In our conversations, it became clear he aligns with our culture and that he desires to be part of what we are building. His success at multiple levels speaks to the strength of his offensive philosophy and his commitment to team building and we’re confident he will help us take the next steps as a program.”
Warner served most recently as an offensive analyst at Toledo during the 2025 season. Before that, he was Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Bowling Green from January 2022 through March 2025, where he also handled play calling duties.
“I am thrilled be joining the Massachusetts football program and want to thank head coach Joe Harasymiak and athletic director Ryan Bamford for the opportunity,” Warner stated. “With the energy inside the football program and the resources committed to our student-athletes, this felt like the perfect place for me and my family. The work has already begun and I’m excited to be a part of the culture we are building both on and off the field.”
During his tenure at Bowling Green, Warner helped guide the team to three straight bowl appearances: two Quick Lane Bowls in 2022 and 2023, followed by participation in the 68 Ventures Bowl in 2024. The teams recorded conference records of 5-3 in both 2022 and 2023, improving to 6-2 in MAC play in 2024.
Bowling Green’s offense under Warner saw year-over-year improvements in production, increasing from an average of 334 yards per game (23.5 points) in 2022 up to 377.5 yards per game (27.1 points) by 2024.
In addition to overall team performance, Warner played a role in developing key players such as quarterback Connor Bazelak during the 2024 season. Bazelak completed nearly 67 percent of his passes—second-best in school history—and led both conference passing yards (3,044) and total touchdowns (18). His completion percentage ranked first among MAC quarterbacks.
Tight end Harold Fannin Jr., another player developed under Warner’s guidance, became Bowling Green’s first consensus All-American after setting national records for receptions (117) and receiving yards (1,555) by a tight end during one season.
Warner previously worked with quarterback Matt McDonald between 2020–22; McDonald achieved over 2,600 passing yards with a completion rate above sixty percent as a senior.
Before joining Bowling Green’s staff, Warner held positions including head coach at Bloomingdale High School in Florida from 2016–18—leading them to two state playoff appearances—and various assistant coaching roles at Virginia Tech, Fort Hays State University, North Carolina Wesleyan College, Lakeland College, DeForest High School, Hillsborough High School, as well as internationally with Sweden’s Carlstad Crusaders.
Warner played collegiate football at Millikin University where he was a three-year letter winner at quarterback before earning bachelor’s (2006) and master’s degrees (Fort Hays State University; 2009).
He is married to Kaitlyn Warner; they have three daughters.
