University of Massachusetts junior goaltender Michael Hrabal has been named Hockey East Stop It Goaltending Co-Goaltender of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Monday. This is Hrabal’s third weekly honor this season and marks the ninth time a UMass Minutemen player has received a weekly recognition during the current campaign.
Hrabal, who is from Prague, Czechia, contributed significantly as UMass secured five out of six possible points in their series against No. 13/14 ranked UConn. Over the weekend, he stopped 87 out of 91 shots and made six saves out of seven attempts in a seven-round shootout. His performance included a save percentage of .956 and a goals-against average (GAA) of 1.92 for the week. Two of the four goals allowed by Hrabal came during power plays.
On Friday, Hrabal recorded 37 saves in UMass’s 5-1 win at Storrs and was named the game’s top star. The following night, he set a personal best with 50 saves in a 3-3 tie against UConn and helped secure an additional point for his team by making six saves during a lengthy shootout.
