The City of Northampton announced on Mar. 27 a series of construction projects and public works updates scheduled for the week of March 30.

These ongoing efforts are intended to maintain city infrastructure, improve safety, and enhance accessibility for residents. The work includes street repairs, sidewalk reconstruction, utility upgrades, and other key improvements across multiple neighborhoods.

According to the announcement, recent activities by the Highway Division included repairing potholes on several streets such as Chestnut Street and Elm Street. Crews also worked on installing or repairing traffic signs at various locations including Bridge Road and Main Street. The sidewalk in front of 56-58 Main Street has been reopened following repairs.

Several road closures remain in effect: Federal Street is reduced to one lane at the culvert crossing between Milton Street and Vernon Street; Lovefield Street and Old Wilson Road are closed until further notice; Old Springfield Road bridge will stay closed until spring. Residents can report potholes using an online form, with priority given to larger hazards.

Major ongoing projects include pedestrian improvements along Easthampton Road (Route 10), gas main replacements by Eversource Gas in multiple areas, bicycle and pedestrian enhancements near Northampton High School on North Elm Street set to begin in late April, rail trail bridge deck replacements expected to finish by June 30, sewer lining operations that may cause brief service disruptions with advance notice provided to affected households, sidewalk reconstruction on several streets resuming soon, tree protection zones during utility upgrades per city policy requirements, as well as continued site restoration after water storage tank demolition at Turkey Hill Road.

Additional projects such as dam vegetation management and pavement resurfacing are scheduled to resume in spring. Residents are encouraged to visit the city’s website for more information about current public works initiatives or sign up for automatic notifications through the Notify Me system.
