The City of Northampton announced on April 3 a detailed schedule of ongoing and upcoming construction projects for the week of April 6. The update covers a range of infrastructure improvements, including road repairs, utility upgrades, trail work, and sidewalk reconstruction across various neighborhoods.
These regular updates are intended to keep residents informed about disruptions, closures, and progress on public works initiatives throughout the city. Timely communication helps residents plan travel routes and anticipate temporary service interruptions as necessary maintenance is performed.
Recent activities by the Highway Division included pothole repairs on several streets such as Arch Street, Florence Road, and West Center Street. Sign installation or repair took place on roads including Bates Street and Main Street. Seasonal sand barrels were also removed from locations around Northampton. Federal Street remains reduced to one lane at the culvert crossing between Milton Street and Vernon Street until further notice; Lovefield Street continues to be closed; while Old Springfield Road bridge is seasonally closed until spring.
Major projects starting or continuing this month include accessibility upgrades to Boggy Meadow Road with closures in effect during construction; replacement of outlet control structures at Burts Bog; multiple Eversource Gas main replacement projects in different areas; sewer service repairs scheduled for Florence Street during school vacation week; North Elm Street corridor improvements near Northampton High School set to begin in late April; stream restoration efforts at Old Wilson Road involving culvert removal and habitat enhancements; rail trail bridge deck replacements with temporary detours posted for users; sewer lining work using cured-in-place pipe technology causing brief service disruptions with advance notice provided to affected properties.
Other initiatives underway involve sidewalk reconstruction along Bedford Terrace, Florence Road, North Elm Street, and State Street. Tree protection zones have been established where utility upgrades are taking place near public shade trees according to city trench permit policies. Water storage tank demolition on Reservoir Road and Turkey Hill Road is largely complete with final site restoration checks planned later this spring.
Several additional projects are slated to resume in spring 2026 including dam vegetation management, pedestrian improvements along Route 10, pavement resurfacing plans for next year, Riverside Drive sewer repair efforts, Rocky Hill Greenway path work, and Terrace Lane reconstruction. Residents can find more information about current Public Works projects by visiting the city’s website or signing up for automatic notifications through the “Notify Me” system.
