The Department of Public Works Water Division in Northampton announced on March 30 that its annual water main flushing program will begin on April 6, weather permitting. The work is scheduled to take place Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is expected to last for about twelve weeks.
The program aims to maintain the quality of the city’s water supply by following recommendations from the Department of Environmental Protection. The process will start in Ward 7 Leeds and continue through Florence, Bay State, downtown Northampton, and Ward 3.
During this period, residents may notice temporary low water pressure or discolored water as crews flush the mains throughout different neighborhoods. These changes are normal and should resolve once the work moves out of each area.
For more information about the schedule or potential impacts, residents can contact the Department of Public Works at dpwinfo@northamptonma.gov or call 413-587-1570.
This routine maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to ensure safe and high-quality drinking water for all Northampton customers.
