The Northampton High School Environmental Club announced on Apr. 10 that it will hold its annual Styrofoam Collection event on Saturday, May 16 at Northampton High School from 8 to 10:30 a.m. The cost for dropping off materials is $5 per bag.

The event is designed to help community members responsibly dispose of certain types of styrofoam, also known as expanded polystyrene (EPS). Eligible items for collection include clean white EPS foam, rigid packaging, and styrofoam boxes. Items that will not be accepted include food service foam, colored foam, meat trays, packing peanuts or foam, styrofoam cups, and other extruded polystyrene (XPS) products.

Participants are asked to remove all tape from their items before bringing them in. The club has specified that black trash bags or colored styrofoam should not be brought to the event. Additionally, cardboard or plastic labels and any markings made with marker are not allowed.

Community members who have questions about the event can email mia.jones@stu.northampton-k12.us or call 413-270-1234 for more information.

Events like this provide an opportunity for residents to reduce landfill waste by recycling materials that are otherwise difficult to process through regular municipal systems.
