Rep. Richard Neal, who has represented Massachusetts’ 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 1989, recently posted a series of updates on his official social media account addressing infrastructure improvements, travel advisories for Americans in Mexico, and criticism of Republican policies affecting Medicare.

On February 22, Neal wrote about his efforts to secure federal funding for local projects: “I’ve already joined the communities of Chicopee and Oxford to highlight the earmark funding I secured to strengthen infrastructure, expand educational opportunities, and improve quality of life in MA-01. From North Adams to West Brookfield, I look forward to celebrating all the”.

In a post dated February 23, Neal issued a warning regarding travel safety for Americans in Mexico amid ongoing violence: “Due to the ongoing violence following Mexican military operations, all Americans traveling in Mexico are urged to shelter in place. If you or a loved one needs assistance, please call one of the following assistance lines: U.S. Embassy From Mexico: (55) 8526 2561 From the U.S.:”.

On February 24, Neal criticized Republican fiscal policies related to Medicare benefits: “Republican billionaire handouts are putting lives at risk. Their wealthy giveaways slashed 12 years off of Medicare benefits, impacting our nation’s seniors most. Democrats are doing everything we can not only to reverse course, but chart a better path.”

Neal has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Edward Boland in 1989 and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Worcester in 1949 and currently residing in Springfield, Neal holds a Bachelor’s degree from American International College.
