Rep. Richard Neal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Massachusetts’ 1st district since 1989, posted a series of tweets on February 25, 2026, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s economic and health care policies.
In his first post at 02:33 UTC, Neal questioned the definition of the “golden age of America” under Trump, stating: “What does the ‘golden age of America’ look like under Trump? Grocery prices are up, and SNAP benefits are cut to finance a tax cut for billionaires. Health care costs are up, and Medicare and Medicaid are cut to finance a tax cut for billionaires. It’s golden for billionaires,”.
Later that evening at 02:42 UTC, Neal commented on legislative proceedings involving tax policy: “My Democratic colleagues on the @WaysMeansCmte sat through a 17-hour markup of Trump’s One Big Ugly Law. Believe us when we say it was 17 hours of talking about tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, not the middle class.”
At 03:11 UTC on the same date, Neal further criticized Trump’s approach to public health funding: “And he cut Medicaid by $1 trillion. Trump’s record on health care is atrocious.”
Neal has been an active figure in Congress since succeeding Edward Boland in 1989 and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Worcester in 1949 and now residing in Springfield, Neal graduated from American International College with a BA.
