Rep. Richard Neal, a U.S. Congressman representing Massachusetts’ 1st district since 1989, has recently addressed several national issues through his social media posts, focusing on workers’ rights and the independence of federal institutions.
On September 16, 2025, Neal emphasized the importance of paid leave for American workers. He wrote, “If you get sick, have a baby, or need to care for someone you love, you should be able to take time off without fear of losing your paycheck. My Democratic colleagues and I are fighting to make that a reality for every worker. The latest on that fight: https://t.co/a5OVS2CRSq”.
The following day, September 17, Neal criticized the Trump Administration’s approach to science policy in government employment decisions. In his post he stated, “In the Trump Administration, if you don’t bend the knee to pseudoscience, you get the axe. https://t.co/tIRmkvXhUw”.
Later that same day he commented on Federal Reserve policy under President Trump: “Trump’s attempts to politicize the Fed were always wrong and self-dealing. Today’s rate cut is an example of why it’s important for the Fed to make decisions that are economically responsible—not politically convenient. https://t.co/Lxp3k4gUhL”.
Neal has represented Massachusetts’s 1st District in Congress since succeeding Edward Boland in 1989 and previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Worcester in 1949 and currently residing in Springfield at age 74, Neal is also an alumnus of American International College with a BA degree.
