Richard Neal, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Massachusetts’ 1st district since 1989, has recently shared his thoughts on various significant matters through social media posts. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1949 and residing in Springfield, Neal has been an influential figure in politics, succeeding Edward Boland. He holds a BA from American International College.
On May 19, 2025, Neal expressed his support for President Biden amidst a challenging time. In his post, he stated “President Biden has brought strength and faith to all of life’s battles, and this diagnosis will be no different. I’m keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in my heart and prayers right now.”
Two days later, on May 21, 2025, Neal mourned the loss of a colleague and friend. He wrote “I’m heartbroken to learn of the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Gerry. This is a profound loss. Virginia—and our entire country—has lost a great man, a passionate advocate, and a tireless fighter.” He extended his condolences to Gerry’s family and loved ones.
Later that day on May 21st, Neal criticized Republican actions regarding tax legislation. He posted “This is no way to govern. At 1a.m., under the cover of darkness, Republicans convened the Rules Committee as they try to jam through the President’s big, beautiful tax cut for billionaires.” Neal voiced concerns about potential cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs.
