Rep. Richard Neal, who has represented Massachusetts’ 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 1989, posted a series of messages on April 2, 2026, addressing both holiday well-wishes and criticism of current trade policies.

In a post at 00:48 UTC, Neal extended Passover greetings to his constituents and others celebrating worldwide: “Chag Sameach to all those celebrating Passover in MA-01 and around the world. May this season be filled with prosperity, joy, and peace.”

Later that day at 13:40 UTC, Neal turned to economic issues, criticizing the administration’s trade record one year after what he called the President’s “‘Liberation Day’”: “One year after the President’s so-called ‘Liberation Day,’ all the President has to show for it is higher costs, stalled growth, and a weakened job market. Workers and families are paying for his failed trade policies every day and at every turn.” He followed up immediately with another post linking to his full statement: “My full statement: https://t.co/dsf0ICV7gK”.

Neal was born in Worcester in 1949 and currently resides in Springfield. Before joining Congress in 1989—succeeding Edward Boland—he served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He holds a bachelor’s degree from American International College.
