Richard Neal reflects on U.S.-Ireland ties during St. Patrick’s events

U.S. Representative Richard Neal, who represents Massachusetts’ 1st district in Congress, recently used his social media platform to highlight the strong connections between Ireland and the United States and to reflect on Irish-American heritage during local celebrations.

On March 23, 2026, Neal posted about his participation in Holyoke’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities, stating, “Not even the rain could dampen Holyoke’s Irish spirit. It is always a privilege to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in a city that wears its Irish heritage so proudly.

The following day, on March 24, he drew attention to the ongoing relationship between Ireland and America as the country approaches its 250th anniversary: “With the celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary, we are reminded of the deep and enduring ties between the United States and Ireland.

Just as the Irish helped shape America over the last 250 years, the U.S. must continue to help Ireland as it prepares for the next chapter https://t.co/GH9e4h8tWK“.

Neal has served Massachusetts’s 1st District since 1989 after succeeding Edward Boland. He previously held office in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and was born in Worcester in 1949. Currently residing in Springfield at age 74, Neal is an alumnus of American International College with a bachelor’s degree.
