The University of Massachusetts softball team defeated Dartmouth College 9-1 at Sortino Field on March 31. Lillie Scheivert hit a walk-off three-run home run to secure the win in the Minutewomen’s first home game of the 2026 season.
The victory was highlighted by a strong offensive performance from Massachusetts, which scored nine runs on eleven hits. Odyssey Torres and Riain Keefe each collected three hits, with Torres hitting a triple and driving in three runs. Scheivert’s game-winning homer marked her first as a Minutewoman and brought in three runs.
Pitcher Hannah Streicher allowed only one run and six hits over six innings while striking out five batters. Dartmouth took an early lead after Olivia Schramm doubled following a leadoff base hit, but UMass quickly responded in the bottom of the first inning with key contributions from Keefe, Torres, Scheivert, Packard, and Woodworth to take a 2-1 advantage.
UMass added two more runs in the third inning through consecutive singles by Torres and Scheivert, followed by an RBI double from Woodworth and a sacrifice fly by Angie Rama. The score remained unchanged until the sixth inning when UMass loaded the bases before Torres doubled down the left line to score two more runs. Two pitches later, Scheivert hit her decisive home run over left center field for a mercy-rule victory.
Anna Fagan took the loss for Dartmouth after allowing nine runs (eight earned) on eleven hits across just over five innings pitched. The Minutewomen are scheduled to continue their homestand with a three-game series against Western Michigan beginning Friday, April 3.
