Mammoths rally falls short in 11-9 loss at Trinity

Eliza Marcus, Katie Hadro and Lauren Friedman each scored twice Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as the Amherst College women's lacrosse team's late rally fell short in an 11-9 loss to Trinity College.

Amherst (9-6, 4-6) will be the eighth-seed in the upcoming 2022 NESCAC Tournament. The Mammoths will face No. 1 seed Middlebury in Vermont Saturday at 12 p.m. in a tournament quarterfinal.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* Amherst trailed 7-4 at the half against Trinity and 9-5 with 6:45 left in the third quarter but rallied to toe the game, 9-9, Sydney Larson got the comeback started with an unassisted goal with 5:50 left in the third. Hadro scored off an assist from Larsen with 3:29 remaining to make it a 9-7 score.

* Neither team would score for nearly 11 minutes until Marcus scored an unassisted tally with 7:50 remaining in the contest to make it 9-8. With 5:20 to go in the fourth quarter, Friedman scored off an assist from Fiona Jones to tie the game at 9-9.

* Trinity would score twice in the final 4:45 of the game to preveil, 11-9.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Trinity outshot the Mammoths 24-16 in the game. Caroline Stole had eight saves for Amherst in the defeat.

* Kendall Kurlander and Brynn Korpi each had three caused turnovers in the game for the Mammoths. Megan Larmann had a team-high three groundballs.
