DeMallie, Gonzalez earn NEILA All-New England honors

Junior midfielder Bayard DeMallie and junior attack Brock Gonzalez each earned All-New England honors as six members of the Amherst College men's lacrosse team were recognized by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association for their play this season.

DeMallie was one of four midfielders named to the Division III All-New England First Team while Gonzalez was one of four attacks named to the All-New England Second Team. Senior attack PJ Clementi, junior defenseman Jack McHugh, first-year face-off specialist Nicholas Kopp and junior short-stick defensive midfielder Brodie Rayment each earned honorable mention accolades.

DeMallie scored 27 goals and added 15 assists, playing in all 17 games in his first full collegiate season. The Ridgewood, New Jersey, native scored a hat trick in four straight games, highlighted by a five-goal outing in a 14-9 win at Middlebury on April 23. DeMallie led the Mammoths with 7 man-up goals and also tallied 13 ground balls and 6 caused turnovers. He was one of four Mammoths to earn Second Team All-NESCAC honors.

Gonzalez led the Mammoths with 60 goals and ranked second in the NESCAC with 3.75 goals per game. He scored hat tricks in 14 of the 16 games he played in this season, led by six-goal performances at Springfield on March 23 and Connecticut College on April 13. The Plantation, Florida, native earned Second Team All-NESCAC honors.

Clementi capped his career with 40 goals and 25 assists in his senior season, starting all 17 games for the Mammoths. One of Amherst's three captains, the Huntington, New York, native scored in 15 of 17 games this season and netted a career-high 6 goals against Gettysburg on March 19.

McHugh, a fellow captain, started every game this season. The Doylestown, Pennsylvania, native picked up 35 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers, opening the season with 3 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers in an 11-9 win over Hamilton.

Kopp established himself as a top face-off specialist in his debut season. The Damascus, Maryland, native won 57.9 percent of face-offs, highlighted by a game against Colby in which he won all 22 face-offs. Kopp ranked second in the NESCAC with 7.53 ground balls per game and earned Second Team All-NESCAC recognition.

Rayment was also a Second Team All-NESCAC selection after a season in which he picked up 55 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers while also tallying 2 goals and 9 assists. The Medfield, Massachusetts, native started all 17 games for the Mammoths and picked up 6 ground balls on three occasions.

The Mammoths finished the season at 10-7 overall, the team's eighth consecutive season with a winning record, and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the seventh straight season.
