Harris Foulkes '22 (Belmont, Mass.) has been chosen at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's 2022 Div. III Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner, it was announced Wednesday.

The ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding student-athletes in all five divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO) at the regional and national level. This prestigious award, which dates back to 1982, is presented to the men's and women's national student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Foulkes was also the ITA Northeast Region Arthur Ashe Award recipient and last month was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference's Clarence Chaffee Sportsmanship Award winner.

Foulkes helped Amherst earn the No. 5 seed in the NESCAC Men's Tennis Championship and advance to the semifinals. He went 18-7 at No. 2 singles and won 12 matches at No. 2 doubles this season.

Foulkes served as the SAAC president at Amherst in 2021-22 and has helped with many activities, including establishing the relationship with the community through Special Olympics for children and adults. He helped with the Special Olympics tee shirt fundraiser, and was involved in the athletic department's national searches for the Director of Athletic Communications position and two football assistant coach searches.

Additionally, for the last three years, Foulkes volunteered at the local homeless shelter; where he served dinner, made beds, distributed personal belongings, and washed dishes.

As a student-athlete he excelled in the classroom with a cumulative GPA of 3.71. Harris was a teaching assistant in the Economics Department. He taught core concepts of Econometrics to ~40 students weekly; held office hours and graded problem sets.

"Harris being selected as the winner of the National ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award is a tremendous honor.," Mammoths head coach Todd Doebler said.  "Harris has been a great player for us but more importantly he has been an outstanding ambassador for our program both on and off the court."
