5 Ephs Named to WGCA Scholar All-American Team

Five members of the Ephs Women's Golf team were selected to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team for the 2021-2022 season. To receive this award, the student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher for their entire college career and have competed in at least half of the tournaments that the team entered in for the 2021-2022 season. These criteria are among the strictest in college sports for dual academic and athletic awards, according to the WGCA. Five Ephs athletes were named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, marking the highest number of Ephs recognized in a season since Williams began competing in Women's Golf during the 2006-2007 season.

Among the Ephs athletes awarded All-American Scholar recognition, this is the fourth straight selection for Olivia White '22 and third straight selection for Malini Ruda '23.

Aishvarya Bedi '24

Bedi is a sophomore Political Economy major and is concentrating in Justice and Law Studies. Head coach Tomas Adalsteinsson says that "Aishvarya is seeing great growth in her game." She played in seven tournaments in the fall season and was named to the NESCAC All-Academic Team for the 2021-2022 season along with her WGCA All-American Scholar  recognition. Her best finish came at the Hamilton Invitational, where she tied for 3rd place with a final round of one over par, a score of 74.

Malini Rudra '23

This is Rudra's third consecutive selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team. Rudra, a junior Economics major at Williams college, has been an integral contributor to the Ephs team since she came to campus; she was awarded NESCAC Women's Golf Player of the Year last year and was named to the WGCA DIII All-Region Team along with her selection to the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship team this year.

Olivia White '22

White, a senior Environmental Studies and Psychology double major at Williams, was named a WGCA All-American Scholar all four years at Williams. A consistent athletic and academic powerhouse, White was also selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team all three years at Williams and traveled to every single tournament that the Ephs entered during this time. Additionally, White received WGCA DIII All-Region recognition and was named on the All-NESCAC Team for the second year in a row. Her presence will be missed on the Ephs Women's Golf squad in light of her graduation this Spring.

Catalin Yturralde '23

This is Yturralde's first selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team. A Biology and German double major, Yturralde has seen success both on and off the golf course having finished this year with the lowest scoring average on the Ephs team. She also achieved eight top 5 finishes as an individual. This season, Yturralde was named to both the NESCAC All-Academic Team in addition to the All-NESCAC Team.  In recognition for her outstanding play this year, Yturralde was named to theWGCA DIII All-American Second Team and was on the WGCA DIII All-Region Team.

Tianyi Zhuang '24

Zhuang, a sophomore Economics major at Williams College, has been named to the WGCA All-American Scholar team for the second straight year. She had an exemplary season on the golf course, finishing in the top 5 six times including two individual wins. Due to her successes, she was named a WGCA DIII Honorable Mention All-American and was selected to the WGCA DIII All-Region Team. Additionally, Zhuang was named to the NESCAC All-Academic Team and the All-NESCAC Team.

The Ephs Squad finished second at the NESCAC Championship hosted by Amherst College and sixth overall at the NCAA DIII Championship held in Houston last May. The team graduates two seniors, Olivia White and Johanna Kim, but will return three out of five athletes who competed at the NCAA DIII Championship,: Yturralde, Rudra, and Zhuang.
