Felipe Rico '16 Receives NCAA Fellowship to support Director of DEI & Compliance

Felipe Rico '16, a member of the 2015 national champion men's soccer team at Amherst, has received an NCAA Fellowship to support the Director of DEI & Compliance at Amherst, Athletic Director Don Faulstick announced Thursday.

"It's great to have Milton back on campus, Faulstick said. "As an alum, he knows firsthand what it's like to be a student-athlete here. He'll make an immediate impact in this role."

Rico returns to Amherst after spending the past three years in his native country of Colombia working within a company he and his brothers created called Move Emotion that creates music driven influencer content from the company studios in Medellin and studio alliances in the United States. His parents and sister lead Move Emotion Foundation, which offers music therapy and mental health interventions in Colombia.

Prior to that Rico worked with one of his Amherst College mentors, Ken Banta, on digital presence projects through his company Move Emotion. Immediately following his graduation from Amherst, Rico taught English at Lawrence Academy before moving on to enterprise software company ClickSoftware.

Rico was awarded the Obed Finch Slingerland Memorial Prize at his graduation ceremonies from Amherst in May of 2016. The Slingerland is given by the trustees of the College to members of the senior class who have shown by their own determination and accomplishment the greatest appreciation of and desire for a college education.

"Milton is probably most passionate person I've ever met," Amherst men's soccer Head Coach Justin Serpone said. "I'm not sure I've ever been around someone who connects so deeply with everyone he encounters - it's truly his gift. To say that we're fortunate to have Milton back on campus is an understatement."

In early 2016, Rico spent several weeks in late February and early March training with Clube Atlético Tubarão's U-20 squad, in preparation for the club's upcoming participation in the U-20 Copa Santa Catarina state tournament. C.A. Tubarão is a professional soccer club located in the city of Tubarão, Brazil, whose teams compete in various development-level and professional tournaments.

Rico played a key role in helping the Amherst men's soccer program to win its first-ever NCAA Division III title. Rico netted perhaps his most important goal in the NCAA semifinals against SUNY Oneonta – a penalty shootout score that broke a 3-3 deadlock and sent Amherst to the national title game.
