After a chilly morning start to day one, the Ephs are in the lead by 5 shots at the NESCAC Fall Qualifier hosted at Cold Spring Country Club. The team shot 307, +23, and are trailed by Amherst College. On the individual side, Jessica Huang of Amherst College leads after shooting a 74, +3.
Leading the team today was junior Tianyi Zhuang with a 75, +4. Zhuang kept her round steady, with a key birdie on the par-5 16th. Sophomore Gio Kim matched Zhuang with a 75, +4. Kim also came in with one birdie on the long par-3 13th. Senior Malini Rudra followed with a 77, +6, carding two birdies on the 1st and the 5thhole. First-year Jacqueline Lu carded an 80, +9, for the day. Lu carded four stellar birdies, including one on the par-5 7th hole. Rounding out the team is senior Catalin Yturralde, who shot an 82, +11. Yturralde had one birdie on the day, which came on the par-5 4th.
"Today was definitely a grind," Kim remarks, "but I'm glad I was able to get the ball up and down and post a solid score for the team. We're feeling good heading into tomorrow, and we hope to build off of our lead and bring back the win."
Cold Spring Country Club showed its teeth to the Ephs, but they battled through. Slow greens and an even slower round had the team grinding on the course. However, they are ready to bring the trophy home tomorrow, with the first tee time being at 9:50 am.
