Fifth-Seeded Ephs fall to Top-Seeded Panthers in NESCAC Semifinal

The Middlebury Panthers found two goals in each half to book their spot in the NESCAC Championship game as the Ephs crashed out in the NESCAC semifinals.

The first goal of the game came at the 24:18 mark when Middlebury's Audrey Lazar managed to slip one past the Eph defenders and got the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, an awarded penalty corner saw Katie George score her first goal of the day to secure a 2-0 lead for the Panthers heading into halftime.

Lilly Branka gave the Panthers a three goal lead two minutes into the fourth quarter and Katie George scored her second of the day a minute after to secure a 4-0 victory for the Panthers and a spot in the NESCAC championship game.

"Tough one. Penalties hurt us and we couldn't capitalize on offense in the circle," stated head coach Alix Barrale after the tough loss. "We fought hard and did many things well. Middlebury is an exceptional team."

The Ephs were out shot 22-6, with 5 shots on target for Williams and 12 for Middlebury. Williams ended the season with a 12-5 record in overall play and a 6-4 record in NESCAC play. The Ephs keep their fingers crossed hoping to book their spot in the NCAA Division III postseason tournament. Williams will learn its fate tomorrow night at 10:30 PM when the NCAA DIII Field Hockey Selection Show airs on NCAA.com
