The Mount Holyoke College tennis team moved its record above the .500 mark with a 9-0 non-conference victory over Eastern Nazarene College on Monday at the MHC Indoor Tennis Courts.

Mount Holyoke (4-3) allowed only one point combined over three doubles matches to race out to a 3-0 lead over the visiting Lions (4-9). Sophomore Annika Chai (London, England) and first-year Jaskirat Kaur (Mohali, India) defeated Maria Busila and Hycell Colmenares Duno by an 8-0 score at No. 1 doubles, while senior Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, India) and first-year Cal Smith (Bridgewater, Mass.) shut out Katie Cawthorne and Eilym Gomez 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. At third doubles, Mount Holyoke first-year duo Kennedy Bagley-Fortner (Montclair, N.J.) and Kate Vavra (Weston, Mass.) dispated Mya Landry and Mary Boucher by an 8-1 score.

Chai went on to defeat Busila 6-0, 6-0 at first singles to finish her day without allowing a game to her opponent. Meanwhile Kaur defeated Colmenares 6-2, 6-2 at second singles.

Kiran Cavale and Bagley-Fortner sat out their usual singles positions in Mount Holyoke's lineup, giving a chance for sophomore Katie Rha (Douglaston, N.Y.) and first-year Shanden Plyler (Norwood, N.C.) to make their season debuts in varsity action, and both players scored impressive wins. Plyer defeated Landry 6-3, 6-1 at sixth singles, while Rha downed Boucher 6-2, 2-6 [10-2] at fifth singles.

Meanwhile Smith moved into the third singles position and shut out Jenna Schlosser 6-0, 6-0, and Vavra played at fourth singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Cawthorne.

The Lyons will resume NEWMAC play on Saturday with a 12pom match at Wellesley College.
