Whately Public Schools District’s student-to-teacher ratio rose by 4.3% in 2021-22 school year

The ratio of students to teachers in Whately Public Schools District rose by 4.3% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 121 students being taught by 12.6 teachers in Whately Public Schools District, which covers schools within Franklin County and has a main office in South Deerfield. That's an average of 9.6 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Whately Public Schools District had 116 students and 12.6 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts has roughly one teacher for every 13 students, which is better than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.
