The ratio of students to teachers in Hoosac Valley Regional School District rose by 1.8% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 1,008 students being taught by 87.5 teachers in Hoosac Valley Regional School District, which covers schools within Berkshire County and has a main office in Cheshire. That's an average of 11.5 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Hoosac Valley Regional School District had 1,035 students and 91.4 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.
