Student-to-teacher ratio in Pioneer Valley Regional School District rose in 2021-22 school year

The ratio of students to teachers in Pioneer Valley Regional School District rose by 14.4% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 657 students being taught by 55.2 teachers in Pioneer Valley Regional School District, which covers schools within Franklin County and has a main office in Northfield. That's an average of 11.9 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Pioneer Valley Regional School District had 631 students and 60.6 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.
