The ratio of students to teachers in Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District fell by 8.4% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 557 students being taught by 56.9 teachers in Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District, which covers schools within Franklin County and has a main office in Orange. That's an average of 9.8 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District had 619 students and 57.6 teachers on staff.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.
