The ratio of students to teachers in Franklin County Regional Vocational Technical School District fell by 5.8% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 583 students being taught by 59.4 teachers in Franklin County Regional Vocational Technical School District, which covers schools within Franklin County and has a main office in Turners Falls. That's an average of 9.8 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Franklin County Regional Vocational Technical School District had 555 students and 53.6 teachers on staff.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.
