The ratio of students to teachers in Greater Commonwealth Virtual District fell by 3.1% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 1,030 students being taught by 66.6 teachers in Greater Commonwealth Virtual District, which covers schools within Franklin County and has a main office in Greenfield. That's an average of 15.5 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Greater Commonwealth Virtual District had 943 students and 58.8 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.
