Did Pittsfield Public Schools District students fail or pass their 2021-22 school year Science tests?

Of the 679 students who took part in the MCAS, 69% did not meet the testing standard in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

These students did not meet the required standards of the Science portion of the MCAS, compared to the 31% who did.

The number of Pittsfield Public Schools District students who failed their Science assessments was unchanged from the previous school year.

Pittsfield Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Berkshire County and has a main office in Pittsfield.

In the 2021-22 school year, 135,538 students took the Science test in Massachusetts with 69% students failing, 13.9% more than the year before.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's 2022 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), the average scale score for grade 10 English Language Arts was 503, which met the expectation level, while the average scale score for grade 10 Science was 499, which only partially met the expectation level.

Massachusetts ranks 5th in the ranking of the best and worst public schools from Scholaroo. School systems were evaluated on three factors — student achievement, student safety, and the quality of school education.
