Test expectations: How many Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District students failed to meet the Science MCAS expectations in 2021-22 school year?

Of the 127 students who took part in the MCAS, 63% did not meet the testing standard in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

These students did not meet the required standards of the Science portion of the MCAS, compared to the 37% who did.

The number of Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District students who failed their Science assessments rose by 66.7% from the previous school year.

Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District roughly covers schools within Franklin County and has a main office in Orange.

In the 2021-22 school year, 135,538 students took the Science test in Massachusetts with 63% students failing, 13.9% more than the year before.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's 2022 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), the average scale score for grade 10 English Language Arts was 503, which met the expectation level, while the average scale score for grade 10 Science was 499, which only partially met the expectation level.

The results of the spring 2022 MCAS examinations were mixed, with declines in ELA scores and gains in Math and Science scores since 2021. Overall results indicate a need for improvement as compared to pre-pandemic levels.
