Three members of the University of Massachusetts hockey team were named New England Division I Men’s All-Stars by the New England Hockey Writers Association on Apr. 7. Goaltender Michael Hrabal, defenseman Larry Keenan, and forward Jack Musa received the honors, with Hrabal also earning the Leonard Fowle Most Valuable Player award.
The selection highlights a strong season for UMass, which matched Dartmouth and Northeastern for the most honorees on this year’s All-Star team. Ten different schools had players chosen for these accolades.
Hrabal is now the third player in UMass history to be awarded the Leonard Fowle MVP, joining Bobby Trivigno (2022) and Cale Makar (2019). He recently signed an entry-level contract with Utah Mammoth and was a finalist for several national awards including the Mike Richter Award for goaltender of the year. He was also recognized as Hockey East Player of the Year, Goaltender of the Year, and earned unanimous First Team All-Star status in Hockey East.
During a standout second half of his season, Hrabal helped lead UMass from last place to second in Hockey East standings. From January onward he recorded a 13-4-1 record with four shutouts, allowing two goals or fewer in all but two games during that stretch. Over 29 games this season he posted a .937 save percentage and finished among national leaders in multiple statistical categories.
Musa completed his junior year with career highs in points (36), goals (16), assists (20), plus/minus (+14), as well as special teams contributions including power-play and shorthanded goals. Keenan played all 36 games on defense, registering eight goals and eleven assists while helping limit opponents to just 53 goals during league play.
