University of Massachusetts junior goaltender Michael Hrabal has been named a semifinalist for the 2026 Mike Richter Award, which recognizes the top goalie in men’s NCAA Division I hockey. The award, established in 2014, selects ten semifinalists each year through a panel of 25 voters from across the hockey community. This group includes coaches from each conference and independent schools, national media members, professional scouts, and representatives from USA Hockey.
Hrabal is one of three goaltenders from Hockey East to make the list this year and is the first UMass player to reach this stage as a semifinalist. Over 21 games in his junior season, Hrabal has posted a 2.22 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage with a record of 14-7-3. He has made 584 saves over 1,240 minutes played.
Since January 1, Hrabal’s performance has included an 8-2-0 record with a 1.40 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage over 600 minutes. In that period, he was named national goaltender of the month and Hockey East Player of the Month for January. He also set a program record by recording 191 consecutive shutout minutes last month.
Finalists for the Mike Richter Award will be announced in early March. The winner will be revealed during the NCAA Frozen Four in Las Vegas in April.
