The University of Massachusetts men’s basketball team is set to face Boston College in the Hall of Fame Classic at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPNU. Fans can follow live updates through umassathletics.com or the team’s official social media channels.
This will be the 48th meeting between Massachusetts and Boston College, with Boston College leading the all-time series 26-21. The last encounter took place on November 16, 2014, where Massachusetts secured a 71-62 victory at TD Garden during the Coaches vs. Cancer Tripleheader. In neutral site games, the Minutemen have a 10-3 advantage over the Eagles.
In their most recent outing, Massachusetts (6-3) achieved an 80-60 win against UMass Lowell at home. Jayden Ndjigue led with 15 points, shooting efficiently from both the field and free throw line while also recording six rebounds, four assists, and five steals—the first time a Minutemen player reached five steals in a game since Jaylen Curry against Northeastern on December 18, 2024. Marcus Banks Jr. contributed a team-high 17 points along with three rebounds and two assists.
Boston College enters this matchup after overcoming New Haven with a comeback win of 67-63 on December 6. Donald Hand Jr., who leads Boston College in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game and collects an average of 5.5 rebounds per contest, has posted double-digit scores in eight out of ten games this season. Aiden Shaw leads in rebounding for Boston College while Jayden Hasting ranks third in blocks within the ACC.
The upcoming season marks Frank Martin’s fourth year as head coach for Massachusetts basketball. Last season, Martin guided his team to twelve wins overall—seven within conference play—and saw guard Rahsool Diggins earn All-Atlantic 10 Third Team honors after averaging a team-best 16.8 points per game as a senior. In his tenure so far, Martin has led UMass to its best season since 2014 and claimed his own milestone victories such as his career’s three-hundredth collegiate coaching win on January 25, 2023 against Richmond.
Martin’s coaching staff includes associate head coach Allen Edwards (former Wyoming Cowboys head coach), assistant coaches Matt Figger (formerly UT Rio Grande Valley/Austin Peay) and Brian Steele (former South Carolina player/assistant), director of player development Anthony Evans (previously head coach at FIU/Norfolk State), and director of player personnel Doug Edwards (former Florida State standout). Combined, coaches Allen Edwards, Matt Figger and Anthony Evans have accumulated more than three hundred sixty Division I wins and two coach-of-the-year awards.
After facing Boston College in Springfield, the Minutemen will travel to Sunrise, Florida to play Florida State as part of the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic on Saturday, December 13 at noon; that game will air on ACCN with live updates available via umassathletics.com or @UMassMBB.
