University of Massachusetts men’s lacrosse players Owen Salanger and Colin Coyle have received weekly honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference after helping their team secure victories against Brown and No. 20 UAlbany last week.
Salanger, a sophomore goalkeeper, was named Defensive Player of the Week. He recorded a .702 save percentage with 40 saves over two games and maintained an average of 8.5 goals allowed per game. In addition to his saves, Salanger collected five ground balls and forced one turnover during the week. In the team’s 11-8 win at Brown on Wednesday, he achieved a career-high 23 saves and posted a .742 save percentage, marking the highest single-game save total by a UMass goalie in more than 25 years. On Saturday, he added another strong performance with 17 saves, three ground balls, and a caused turnover as Massachusetts defeated UAlbany 15-9.
Coyle, a freshman attackman from Westfield, New Jersey, earned Rookie of the Week honors after tying for the team lead in points with four goals and three assists over the two games. He also contributed three ground balls. Against Brown, Coyle had one goal and one assist along with two ground balls. He then registered five points (three goals and two assists) on four shots for a .750 shooting percentage in the win over UAlbany.
