The University of Massachusetts softball team won a narrow 3-2 victory over Buffalo on April 7. The game was played in Amherst, where strong defense and a solid pitching performance from Hannah Streicher helped the Minutewomen secure their second consecutive win.
This result is important for the Minutewomen as it improves their record to 12-21 overall and 4-9 in conference play, while Buffalo falls to 17-21 and 6-7 in the Mid-American Conference. The outcome highlights UMass’s ability to hold off late rallies and maintain composure under pressure.
Streicher allowed just six hits across seven innings, holding Buffalo hitless for three frames. Offensively, Lille Scheivert and Odyssey Torres each collected two hits, with Scheivert driving in two runs including a double. Other contributors included Brooke Musch, Grace Colucci, and Tiegan Walsh who each added a hit; Colucci also drew two walks during the contest.
UMass took an early lead when Riain Keefe walked and later scored on Scheivert’s single. In the third inning, Torres singled before Scheivert doubled her home for a second run. Massachusetts extended its advantage to 3-1 after executing a double steal that allowed Colucci to score from third base.
Buffalo responded with runs in the fourth and seventh innings but could not overcome UMass’s lead. Defensive plays by Eliana Raposo in left field were crucial during the sixth inning as she made two diving catches to prevent further scoring opportunities for Buffalo.
Looking ahead, UMass will face Buffalo again on April 8 in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
