The University of Massachusetts women’s lacrosse team defeated Detroit Mercy 22-3 on April 18, securing their ninth consecutive victory. Dylan Lyons and Katie Peterson each scored four goals in the first half as the Minutewomen built a commanding lead early in the game.
The win brings UMass’s record to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the Mid-American Conference. The team’s strong start was highlighted by a 12-0 advantage after the first quarter. Head coach Jana Drummond said, “We are extremely proud of the team’s start and execution in the first quarter. Full team connection through the entirety of the game. Team was excited to get so many people in.”
Lyons achieved her sixth straight hat trick and tenth consecutive multi-goal game, while Ava Connaughton led all players with six points from two goals and four assists. Kassidy Morris contributed two goals and two assists, surpassing 300 career points—becoming only the third player in program history to reach that mark.
Cate Marshall set a personal best with 21 draw controls, while Heather Clark tied her career high with three caused turnovers along with three groundballs. UMass forced Detroit into committing fifteen turnovers out of twenty-three total for the Titans.
UMass continued its dominance throughout, reaching a halftime score of 16-0 and finishing with significant advantages in shots (49-11), draw controls (24-3), and groundballs (21-17).
