UMass women’s track and field competes at Georgia Tech and UConn Northeast Challenge

The University of Massachusetts women’s track and field team competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia, and the UConn Northeast Challenge in Storrs, Connecticut on April 17-18.

The competitions allowed several athletes to achieve notable placements. At the Georgia Tech Invitational, Jaliyah Burns finished eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 171 feet, 2 inches. Shakira Cadet took sixth place in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 11.25 inches. Coco Van Nynatten secured second place in the discus throw with a toss of 160 feet, 8 inches. Tolu Odetola placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 40 feet, 3.5 inches, moving up to third all time in program history for outdoor triple jump.

At the UConn Northeast Challenge, Elizabeth Hopkins placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 136 feet, 3 inches. Bridget Lee earned third place in the long jump by reaching a mark of 18 feet, 9.25 inches. Maia Perillo finished sixth in pole vault after clearing a height of 11 feet, 1.75 inches.

These performances reflect continued efforts by team members to improve their standings as they progress through their spring schedule.

The Minutewomen will return to competition at the Penn Relays held in Philadelphia starting Thursday, April 23.
