University of Massachusetts freshman forward Václav Nestrašil was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week, according to a March 16 announcement from the league. This is his second time receiving the honor this season and marks the 12th weekly award earned by a member of the Minutemen during this campaign.

The recognition comes after Nestrašil’s performance in UMass’ 4-1 victory over Northeastern in the Hockey East Quarterfinals. The forward from Prague, Czechia contributed significantly to his team’s success, recording one goal and two assists in the game. He assisted on UMass’ first two goals and later scored an insurance goal in the third period that extended his team’s lead to two.

Nestrašil also registered four shots on goal and finished with a +2 rating against Northeastern. His efforts were instrumental in helping UMass advance further in postseason play.

This latest accolade highlights both Nestrašil’s impact as a freshman and the overall strength of UMass hockey players throughout the season. The team has now collected a dozen weekly awards, reflecting consistent individual performances across its roster.

As UMass continues its postseason run, observers will be watching to see if Nestrašil and his teammates can maintain their momentum.
