Amherst Public Schools: Which ethnic group was most represented in 2022-23 school year?

White was the most represented ethnicity among Amherst Public Schools students in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In total, there were 476 white students enrolled, accounting for 45.4% of the district's student body.

The number of white students attending schools in the district decreased 1.2% from the previous school year.

Meanwhile, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander students were the least represented ethnic group within the schools in Amherst Public Schools.

Amherst Public Schools roughly covers schools within Hampshire County, and has a main office in Amherst.

The total number of students attending the district’s schools fell to 1,050 over the 2022-23 school year.

Students in Massachusetts are predominantly white, according to state data from 2023-24, representing 53% of the state's student body.

Across the state, Hispanic and Latino students saw the highest high school dropout rates.

Under representation is also found among educators in Massachusetts. The Rennie Center reported that only 7.8% of teachers identified as people of color in 2022.
